Damaged or Stolen Items

At Next-Door Rental (NDR), your safety and confidence matter. We’ve built multiple layers of protection — including an optional Damage Waiver — to support our community and minimize the risk of damage, theft, or loss during rentals.

Minimizing Potential Losses

Security Deposits

Lenders are encouraged to include a negotiable security deposit with any listed product. This deposit is held in trust by NDR until the item is returned or an incident report is filed. It serves as the first line of protection in the event of damage, loss, or theft.

Lenders can adjust deposit amounts based on the renter’s reviews and profile history.

The Damage Waiver

If the security deposit does not fully cover the damage or loss, the Damage Waiver — when it was added to the booking — applies to the remaining amount, subject to the No-Loophole Guarantee waiver terms.

The Damage Waiver is an optional add-on selected at booking — lenders can require it on a listing, offering an extra layer of peace of mind for both renters and lenders.

Reviewing Renter Ratings

Before accepting a proposal, check the renter’s profile for rating scores, reviews, and transaction history. For renters with limited or low reviews, consider requiring a higher security deposit. For well-reviewed renters, you may choose to reduce or waive the deposit.

Photo Documentation

We strongly recommend accepting or rejecting the geo-located, time-stamped photos taken at pickup and return. This documentation helps protect both parties and serves as critical evidence if an incident occurs.

Handling Late Returns

If an item is not returned on time, submit an incident report immediately. This alerts NDR to step in, mediate the situation, and apply the security deposit accordingly.

Compensation for Damaged Items

If an item is returned damaged, follow these steps:

  1. Submit an Incident Report via the NDR platform.

  2. NDR will review the details, including photos and communication records.

  3. If applicable, we will:

    • Apply the security deposit toward compensation.

    • Apply the Damage Waiver to any remaining verified damage, when it was added to the booking.

    • Take further action such as user suspension, product removal, or investigation.

NDR does not profit from security deposits; they are always returned to the appropriate party after resolution.

Reporting Stolen Items

If your item is not returned and you believe it was stolen:

  1. File a police report and include it in your incident report.

  2. NDR will work with you and law enforcement to assist in the resolution.

  3. If verified, we will use the security deposit first, and the Damage Waiver for the remainder, if it was added to the booking.

By using security deposits, verifying renters, and submitting proper documentation, you help create a safer and more reliable experience for everyone on Next-Door Rental.
